Drift over riffles and rough runs below riffles. Use short casts.
Use when trout are making splashy rises.
Good evening fly. Most effective in May, June and July.
TYING TIPS:
Dub the body with a fat taper.
Wind (palmer) the hackle in close turns to the front. Use lots of hackle. The smoky color of the hackle represents motion more then it imitates the insects legs. Counterwind the palmered hackle with tying thread to keep hackle from breaking.
